In the post colonial years (1804 and beyond) Haiti adopted economic, political, and social structures which may have served its purpose for approximately a century and a half.  However, in the past 50 years or so, these systems have proven woefully inadequate, unsustainable, and downright problematic to the survival of the republic.  Things therefore have to change if Haiti is to remain a viable social, economic, and political entity. 

Bon Dos with its 2000+ inhabitants, can be such a success story. 

Not wanting to simply give fish, but instead to teach how to fish, ReThinkHaiti, in collaboration with all its partners, will develop an Exit Strategy to allow Village Officials and residents to run their own affairs over a 5-7 year period. This Exit Strategy is also a critical dimension and key to success for Bon Dos and for other target locations throughout Haiti.
